What happened

Reports ahead of WWDC 2026 say Apple plans to give users more AI choice in Siri. Users may be able to set third-party engines, such as ChatGPT or Claude, as Siri's default. Apple is also expected to add an AI agent that can handle real tasks. Examples include booking reservations, managing everyday tasks, editing documents, and controlling smart home devices.

A new Visual Intelligence mode in the Camera app and AI photo editing tools are also rumored.

Why it matters

Letting users pick their own AI engine would be a big change in approach. It would turn Siri into a front end that can route to the best model for a task, rather than locking users into one system. That gives people more control and flexibility.

An AI agent that takes action also moves Apple into the agent race with Google and OpenAI.

MintedBrain take

Model choice is a user-friendly idea, since no single AI is best at everything. If Apple delivers it, you could match the engine to the job. As always, treat these as reports until the keynote confirms them, and watch how Apple handles privacy with third-party models.
