What happened

Anthropic announced on October 22, 2026 that it is donating Agent Skills to the Agentic AI Foundation (AAIF), under the Linux Foundation. The transfer covers the standard’s name and logo, GitHub organization, and domain.

A skill packages task instructions in a SKILL.md file, with supporting resources when needed. Anthropic says more than 70 agent platforms have integrated the standard. That adoption figure is the company’s claim, not an independent MintedBrain measurement.

What changes for builders

Anthropic says people can continue using and contributing to the standard without joining AAIF. Its proposed roadmap includes versioned releases, a formal proposal process, and security guidance. These are proposed next steps, not completed features.

MintedBrain take

A shared format can make workflow instructions easier to reuse. It does not guarantee identical behavior across tools. Check each host’s supported capabilities and review bundled scripts before installing a skill.
