What happened

Anthropic announced Claude Duet on October 21, 2026. The proactive assistant is opening as a waitlisted research preview, initially for US Pro and Max subscribers.

The company says Duet can prepare briefs from connected apps, flag items needing attention, and continue assigned work while a user is away. It is offered through iOS, Android, and claude.ai. Preview access is included in the eligible subscriptions and shares Claude's usage limits.

Why it matters

The announcement moves beyond answering a chat message toward monitoring work and completing tasks over time. Access remains limited: joining the waitlist does not mean immediate availability.

MintedBrain take

Start with one administrative workflow and review what the agent can access and do. Evaluate whether its updates are useful before connecting more accounts. Anthropic's descriptions of safeguards are vendor claims, not an independent guarantee.
