What happened

Google began rolling out Gemini 3.5 Pro in June 2026. The company had shown the model at I/O the prior month and said it was already in use inside Google. The Pro model sits above Gemini 3.5 Flash in Google's lineup. It aims at the high end for hard reasoning, coding, and agent tasks.

The rollout follows the launch of Gemini 3.5 Flash, which Google said already beat the older Gemini 3.1 Pro on tough tests.

Why it matters

Flagship models set the ceiling for what a company's AI can do. Gemini 3.5 Pro is Google's new top model, so it shapes the most demanding tasks people throw at Gemini. It also marks Google's answer to top models from OpenAI and Anthropic.

With Flash already strong, a stronger Pro raises Google's whole range.

MintedBrain take

For heavy users, Pro models are where the hardest tasks should go. If you use Gemini for complex coding or research, test 3.5 Pro against your current model. Match the model to the task, since Flash often handles everyday work at lower cost.
