What happened
The Ramp AI Index for June 2026 shows Anthropic ahead of OpenAI in US business adoption. Anthropic reached 41 percent of US businesses with paid AI subscriptions, up 2.5 points, extending a lead it first took earlier in the year. Ramp tracks spending patterns across more than 50,000 US businesses.
The picture is not one-sided. A separate IDC survey found lower overall use of Claude than OpenAI and Google models, with only 19 percent of organizations reporting extensive Claude use. The two findings measure different things, paid adoption versus depth of use.
Why it matters
Business adoption is a key sign of which AI tools are winning real work, not just attention. Anthropic's rise reflects strong demand for Claude in coding and enterprise tasks. But the mixed data shows the race is close and far from settled.
For a young market, leadership can shift quickly as new models launch.
MintedBrain take
Adoption numbers depend on how you measure them, so read them with care. The clear takeaway is that Anthropic and OpenAI are now in a tight race for business users. For teams, the practical move is to test both on your real tasks rather than follow the leaderboard.
