An open-source video generation model from Alibaba, widely considered the best open-weights video model available as of early 2026. Wan 2.1 produces high-quality text-to-video and image-to-video outputs with strong motion quality, available in 1.3B and 14B parameter versions. The 1.3B model runs on consumer GPUs with 8GB VRAM, making local video generation accessible to individuals for the first time. Released under Apache 2.0 license, Wan can be run via ComfyUI, Fal.ai, and other platforms. It brought open-source video generation to a level that competes with commercial tools.
