Create a Presentation with Gamma (No Design Skills)

Creating a presentation used to mean hours in PowerPoint — choosing layouts, adjusting fonts, fighting with bullet points. Gamma is an AI tool that builds the slides for you. You describe what you want, and it generates a full, visually polished presentation in under a minute. This tutorial walks you through your first Gamma presentation from scratch.

Who this is for: Anyone who needs to create a presentation but doesn't want to spend hours on slide design.

What you'll walk away with: A complete, presentable slide deck ready to share or present.

What You Need

  • A web browser
  • A free account at gamma.app (no credit card needed)
  • A topic or rough idea for your presentation

Step 1: Sign Up and Create a New Presentation

Go to gamma.app in your browser. Click Sign up free — you can use your Google account or email. Once you're in, you'll see your Gamma dashboard.

Click the "+ Create new" button (usually in the top-right corner or center of the screen). You'll see options for creating an "AI presentation," a doc, or a webpage. Choose "Presentation" (or "AI Presentation" if that option appears).

✅ You're done with Step 1 when: You see the prompt box asking you to describe your presentation.

Step 2: Describe Your Presentation

In the prompt box, type a clear description of what you want. The more detail you give, the more tailored the result. Here's what to include:

  • Topic — What is the presentation about?
  • Number of slides — How many slides do you want?
  • Key sections — What must be covered?
  • Audience — Who will see this? (optional but helpful)

Example prompt:

"A 5-slide presentation introducing our new product launch. Include: the problem we solve, key features, pricing overview, and a call to action for next steps. Audience: potential customers."

Or if you already have an outline, paste it directly — Gamma works great with bullet points too:

"Turn this into slides: [paste your bullet points here]"

Once you've typed your description, click Generate (or press Enter). Gamma will take 30–60 seconds to build your presentation.

✅ You're done with Step 2 when: Gamma has generated a full set of slides and you can see them on screen.

Step 3: Review What Gamma Created

Scroll through the slides. Gamma will have created layouts with:

  • Headings and body text
  • Visuals or icons
  • A consistent design theme

At this point, don't worry about perfection — just check that the right topics are covered and the general structure makes sense. Note anything you want to change.

Step 4: Edit the Slides

Click on any slide to edit it. Gamma's editor is simple and visual:

  • To change text: Click on any text block and start typing.
  • To change an image: Click on the image and look for "Replace image" or a similar option.
  • To add a new slide: Look for the "+" button between slides in the left sidebar.
  • To remove a slide: Right-click the slide thumbnail in the sidebar and choose "Delete."
  • To change the design theme: Look for a "Theme" or "Design" button in the top menu — Gamma offers several color and font combinations.

You don't need to be a designer. Gamma handles the visual structure; you just adjust the words and images.

✅ You're done with Step 4 when: All the slides have the correct content and you're happy with the look.

Step 5: Present or Export

When you're ready to use your presentation:

  • Present directly from Gamma: Click "Present" (usually in the top-right corner). Gamma will display your slides fullscreen in the browser — no download needed. Works great for screen sharing in Zoom or Google Meet.
  • Export to PDF: Click the three-dot menu (⋯) or "Export" and choose PDF. You'll get a downloadable file you can share by email or print.
  • Share the link: Gamma lets you share a live link to your presentation. Anyone with the link can view it in their browser.

✅ You're done when: Your presentation is either presented, downloaded, or shared with your audience.

Tips for Better Results

  • Be specific in your prompt. "5 slides about AI for small businesses" gives better results than "presentation about AI."
  • Browse templates first. If you're not sure what you want, click "Templates" on the Gamma homepage — there are hundreds of starting points organized by use case.
  • Iterate freely. If the first version isn't right, just start a new one with a refined prompt. It only takes a minute each time.
  • Keep slides focused. One main idea per slide is always more effective than cramming in lots of text.
  • The free tier is generous. You get enough credits to create several presentations. You only need to upgrade if you're making many presentations regularly.

Troubleshooting

"The slides have the wrong number of sections" → Edit the outline before generating, or delete/add slides after the fact in the editor.

"The design doesn't match my brand" → Use the Theme settings to adjust colors. You can also manually change text colors and fonts on individual slides.

"The text is too long on some slides" → Click the text block and shorten it. Aim for 3–5 bullet points per slide maximum for readability.

"I want to use this in PowerPoint instead" → Some Gamma plans allow PPTX export. Alternatively, export as PDF and re-import into PowerPoint.
