Analyzing User Feedback with AI
Why Batch Analysis Matters
As your product grows, you get hundreds of pieces of feedback. It comes from support tickets, NPS surveys, Twitter mentions, and feature requests. Reading each one by hand does not scale.
Batch analysis uses AI to find patterns across large amounts of feedback. Instead of reading 200 comments, you ask AI to cluster them and show you the themes.
Clustering and Tagging Feedback
AI can read feedback and group it by topic.
Example: You have 50 NPS comments from a customer survey. You ask AI to cluster them into 4-5 topic groups and count how many comments mention each topic.
AI might find:
- 18 comments about performance issues
- 12 comments about confusing UI
- 10 comments about missing integrations
- 8 comments about pricing
- 2 comments about great customer support
Now you have a rough map of what matters to your customers.
Sample Batch Analysis Prompt
Here is a template:
"We collected 40 support tickets over the last month. Here are all of them:
[Paste list of 40 support ticket summaries]
Please:
- Group these tickets into 4-6 categories by topic.
- For each category, tell me how many tickets fall into it.
- For each category, show me 2-3 representative examples.
- Which category is the biggest problem? "
AI will cluster them fast. You get a summary in minutes instead of hours.
Handling Mixed Signals
Sometimes feedback is contradictory. Some customers love a feature. Others hate it. Some want more customization. Others want simplicity.
Do not treat this as AI failure. This is real market data. Your users have different needs.
When you see mixed signals, dig deeper.
Prompt: "In my feedback, some customers asked for more customization options. Others said our product is too complex. These seem contradictory. Can you identify what is different about the customers in each group based on the feedback?"
Maybe power users want customization. New users want simplicity. Different features for different segments.
Validating Results Against Raw Feedback
After AI clusters feedback, spot-check the results.
Read some of the tickets in each cluster. Do they actually belong together? Does the label match the content?
Example: AI clusters 15 tickets as "performance issues." You read three of them. One is about slow page load. One is about sync delays. One is about app crashes. These are all performance, so the cluster is right.
But now you might refine further. Are slow load and sync delays the same problem or different problems? This detail matters for prioritization.
Spot-checking keeps AI honest.
Sentiment Analysis
AI can also score feedback as positive, negative, or neutral. This helps you track customer sentiment over time.
Prompt: "Rate each of these NPS comments as positive, negative, or mixed. Tell me what percentage of comments are positive."
AI will score them. You can now say "Last month, 60% of feedback was positive. This month, 75% is positive." That is a signal your product is improving.
Frequency and Priority
Frequency matters. If 30 customers mention a feature request, that is more important than one customer mentioning it.
After clustering, prioritize by frequency.
Prompt: "Based on the clusters you made, rank them by number of mentions. Which top 3 topics should we focus on?"
You now have a data-driven ranking of what customers care about most.
