India AI Impact Summit Concludes With 91 Countries Adopting the New Delhi Declaration
The India AI Impact Summit ran February 16 to 20, 2026, in New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the event on February 19. It was the largest international gathering focused on AI governance to date.
Scale of Participation
Over 20 heads of state attended alongside top technology executives including Sundar Pichai (Google), Sam Altman (OpenAI), and Demis Hassabis (DeepMind). The summit brought government, industry, and civil society together to discuss practical frameworks for AI safety and inclusion.
Key Outcomes
The main result was 92 countries and international organizations adopting the AI Impact Summit Declaration. Additionally, 22 countries signed the Charter for the Democratic Diffusion of AI. Two new institutional bodies were created: the Alliance for Advancing Inclusion Through AI and the Network of AI for Science Institutions.
India's M.A.N.A.V. Vision
Prime Minister Modi presented the M.A.N.A.V. Vision for AI. It stands for Moral and Ethical Systems, Accountable Governance, National Sovereignty, Accessible and Inclusive, and Valid and Legitimate. The framework positions India as a leader in responsible AI development while emphasizing that AI should serve all populations, not just wealthy nations.
Why It Matters
Global AI governance has been fragmented, with the EU, US, and China pursuing different regulatory approaches. The New Delhi Declaration is the broadest international agreement on AI principles to date, covering 92 countries and international organizations. Whether it leads to binding standards remains to be seen, but it establishes a shared starting point.
