Google Launches Veo 3.1 Lite, Its Most Affordable AI Video Model
On March 31, 2026, Google released Veo 3.1 Lite through the Gemini API and Google AI Studio. It is the most affordable model in the Veo family.
What It Does
Veo 3.1 Lite supports text-to-video and image-to-video generation. It handles landscape (16:9) and portrait (9:16) formats at 720p and 1080p resolution. Developers can set video duration at 4, 6, or 8 seconds, with cost scaling accordingly.
Pricing
At $0.05 per second for 720p and $0.08 per second for 1080p, it is the cheapest entry point into Google's video AI lineup. That is less than half the cost of Veo 3.1 Fast, which delivers the same generation speed.
The Veo 3.1 Family
Google now offers three tiers of video generation. Veo 3.1 is the flagship for production quality. Veo 3.1 Fast trades some quality for speed. Veo 3.1 Lite is built for high volume at low cost.
Why It Matters
AI video generation has been expensive enough to limit it to well-funded teams and enterprises. Veo 3.1 Lite changes that. At $0.05 per second, developers can build video features into apps and workflows without large budgets. This is especially relevant as OpenAI exits the consumer video space with the Sora shutdown.
