NVIDIA and Uber Partner to Launch Robotaxis Across 28 Cities by 2028

NVIDIA and Uber announced at GTC 2026 a partnership to deploy autonomous robotaxis across 28 cities on four continents by 2028. The rollout starts in Los Angeles and San Francisco in 2027.

The Technical Stack

Each robotaxi will run on NVIDIA's Alpamayo open models and Halos operating system, designed for Level 4 autonomy. The plan targets 100,000 vehicles across North America, Europe, Australia, and Asia.

Expanding the Ecosystem

Additional automaker partners joining NVIDIA's DRIVE Hyperion platform include BYD, Hyundai, Nissan, and Geely, bringing total committed manufacturers to seven. Uber stock jumped 5.6% on the announcement, closing at $78.83.

What This Means

The Uber deal is NVIDIA's biggest push into commercial autonomous vehicles. Rather than building cars, NVIDIA provides the AI brain, letting automakers and ride platforms handle the vehicles and logistics.
