What happened
Anthropic released Claude Fable 5 on June 9. It is the first Mythos-class model the public can access. Anthropic calls it the most capable model it has ever made available, with strong results across software engineering, knowledge work, vision, scientific research, and autonomous tasks. Alongside it, Anthropic released Claude Mythos 5, a restricted version for approved cybersecurity customers in Project Glasswing.
Fable 5 is available on the Claude API and major clouds, priced at $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens. New safeguards block responses in sensitive areas, mainly cybersecurity and biology, tuned to trigger in under 5 percent of sessions.
Why it matters
Fable 5 brings near top-tier capability to a wide audience at a lower price than the earlier Mythos Preview. The split between a public model and a restricted one shows how Anthropic is trying to balance access with safety on its most powerful systems.
The safeguards reflect real concern about misuse in cyber and bio domains.
MintedBrain take
For builders, Fable 5 is a major new option for hard tasks at a clear price. The conservative safeguards may occasionally block legitimate work, so test your use cases. The bigger theme is Anthropic pushing capability outward while keeping its riskiest model locked down.
